We are looking for WELDERS to join our mechanical teams. Our company performs work at height, so this job is appropriate for candidates who enjoy heights. In this role, you'll be responsible for ensuring site safety and for the successful completion of the project to the satisfaction of the client. The construction carpenters will be working under the supervision of an IRATA L3 Supervisor on various worksites throughout BC.

Successful candidates must have experience in the construction industry. We will provide IRATA Rope Access training to the right candidates. Applicants with certifications in Confined Spaces Training, Fall Protection, and WHMIS will be given preference.

Responsibilities at height or on ground level include but aren’t limited to:

  • Performs scope of work to completion and satisfaction of the client.
  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications
  • Assemble and fit parts together, ensuring precise alignment and adherence to design tolerances.
  • Prepare workpieces by cleaning, cutting, and shaping metal materials using appropriate tools and machinery.
  • Inspect finished welds and assemblies to verify conformance with company standards and industry specifications.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment
  • Operate brazing and soldering equipment
  • Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears and other metal straightening and bending machines
  • Repair worn parts of metal products by welding on extra layers.
  • Be a safety leader by adhering and by meeting all safety requirements and applicable safety policies.
  • Perform detailed welding techniques and weld components in flat, vertical and overhead positions.
  • Operate welding equipment and monitor welding processes to avoid distortion.
  • Read work orders, instructions, and formulas and processing charts.
  • Handle, install, position and move materials.
  • Follows the direction of the Supervisors and Rope Access Manager to ensure scope of work is done correctly.
  • Maintain personal kit equipment and conduct equipment checks on a regular basis.
  • Maintain and utilize group work equipment effectively, minimizing and preventing damage.
  • Assist in set up and take down of personal and group equipment at each job site.
  • Evaluate environment to identify and assess work problems and create solutions to improve productivity and product quality.
  • Be responsible for personal safety and safety of coworkers.
  • Follow and abide by the method of work for each scope of work.
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work with other subcontractors.
  • Attend daily safety meetings to review the daily Field Level Risk Assessments. Sign off on the daily FLRA’s.
  • Review and sign off on the Master Risk Assessment and Method Statement for each job site.
  • Review and sign off on the Rope Access Work and Rescue Plan for each job site.
  • Understands the hazards and controls of each job site.
  • Follow and abide to the regulations in the Pacific Ropes Contracting Employee Manual.
  • Read and follow the Pacific Ropes Operating and Safety Procedures.
  • Complete daily tasks in the allotted time frame.
  • Be a good representative of Pacific Ropes on site to clients and general public.
  • Identify and report to supervisor any unsafe practices at work and/or any damage.
  • Complete task hazard assessments and maintain a safe work environment
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work with other subcontractors.

Additional Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications in welding and fitting preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Welder/Fitter or in a related field, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
  • CWB Certifications in SMAW and FCAW
  • Proficient in various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, ARC) and experienced in interpreting engineering blueprints and specifications.
  • Knowledge of metal fabrication processes, equipment, and materials.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and procedures related to welding and metalwork.
  • Ability to operate welding equipment and various hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Good physical stamina and the ability to work in various positions and environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented setting.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to meet project deadlines.Proven experience as a carpenter or completion of an apprenticeship program.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and the ability to implement safety protocols.
  • Not afraid to work at height
  • Active and quick learner who takes initiative in learning and acquiring new skills.
  • Strong analytical, judgment and decision making skills in order to choose most appropriate course of action.
  • Professional manner when interacting with clients and general public.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
