IRATA L1 Certification: Requirements, Expiry, Validity

IRATA L1 certification requirements differ slightly from SPRAT Certification Requirements. We've put together a simple visual to help guide you with your certification, recertification, and upgrade requirements. 

 

All the information is taken from www.irata.org, please refer to the documentation there for guidance. The information below is a visual representation to help understand, but is not an official IRATA document. 

 

We have compiled a comprehensive list for all the levels for you to view, and we hope to see you soon for your certification training needs! Level 2 and Level 3 information can be found in their respective links! 

 

General Information:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • No previous experience required
  • Have an aptitude for working at height 

 

Attaining Level 1 Certificate: 

  • Register for an IRATA L1 course
  • Attend at least 4 days of training
  • Completion of a Rope Access IRATA 1 written test, assigned throughout the duration of the training session
  • Completion of a 1 day L1 Rope Access Assessment by an independent IRATA Assessor (not affiliated with Pacific Ropes)

 

Validity of Certificate:

  • Valid for 3 years from date of assessment
  • eligible for recertification within 180 days of expiry date
  • recertify by repeating process in "Attaining Level 1"
  • extensions may be granted with an application to IRATA (visit irata.org for more details)

 

Expired Level 1 Certificate:

  • No longer certified to carry out rope access operations
  • No longer able to log hours in Logbook
  • Hours logged before certificate expired are valid and count towards logged hours 
  • Certify by repeating process in "Attaining Level 1"
  • Your new expiration date will be the date of the successful assessment

 

Valid L1 Certificate Upgrade to L2:

  • Minimum 12 months experience
  • Minimum 1000 hours logged with valid certificate
  • Minimum 4 day training course
  • Completion of a Rope Access IRATA 2 written test, assigned throughout the duration of the training session
  • Completion of a 1 day L2 Rope Access Assessment by an independent IRATA Assessor (not affiliated with Pacific Ropes)

 

Expired L1 Certificate Upgrade to L2:

  • Sign up for an IRATA L1 course
  • Attend at least 4 days of training
  • Attend a 1 day assessment
  • If you pass the assessment, you must then work enough to get 150 hours. Log these hours.
  • Attained a minimum total of 1150 logged rope access hours
  • Minimum 4 day L2 training course
  • Completion of a Rope Access IRATA 2 written test, assigned throughout the duration of the training session
  • Completion of a 1 day L2 Rope Access Assessment by an independent IRATA Assessor (not affiliated with Pacific Ropes)

You may find yourself in one of these situations, but there is always a path for you to certify at the level you desire. Keep in mind when recertifying or upgrading at Pacific Ropes, you get a FREE REFRESHER DAY! Sometimes that 1 day will be the day you lock something in, learn or unlearn good/bad habits!
